Suspect in Allentown armed robberies arrested in Dunmore

DUNMORE, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A man is in custody in Lackawanna County after he was allegedly involved in two armed robberies in Allentown.

Between August 1 and August 2, Dunmore Police say they followed up on a lead in regards to a wanted fugitive out of Allentown.

Officers say the wanted man, Jeffery Keels, was accused of committing two armed robberies. Police say Keels possessed a firearm during both of those robberies.

Authorities explained that officers from Dunmore, Dickson City, Throop, and members of the Drug Task Force performed surveillance near a Dunmore hotel, where the information found led officers to the area in search of Keels.

Police investigating after man was shot twice

After their search, police say Keels was seen in a nearby parking lot, and after a brief chase on foot, was taken into custody without major incident at about 11:00 p.m. on Friday.

Police say Keels is facing multiple charges, including evading arrest and other related charges.

Keels is awaiting a preliminary hearing in regards to his felony warrant in Allentown, according to authorities.

Officers say a family member of Keels was also apprehended for having several outstanding warrants.
