New US citizens recognized in Wilkes-Barre

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A ceremony was held on Wednesday to honor new American citizens living in Luzerne County.

Wilkes-Barre Mayor George Brown hosted the event, inviting 40 new citizens into the city council chambers to welcome them and say thank you.

The ceremony is organized by Danny Lugo, owner of Quisqueyana Multiservice.

Lugo came from the Dominican Republic before becoming an American citizen.

She partnered with the city to her office on Scott Street to work with the Latino community to help them gain their citizenship.

"This is a great step. It's like a milestone for everyone to become a US citizen. This is a great country, and this is like the maximum that we can reach becoming a citizen of one of the best countries in the world. So we celebrate every one of you," Lugo explained.

Lugo is planning to expand into Scranton to help immigrants living there become American citizens as well.
