City launches workforce development partnership with LCCC

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Some new perks are on the way for city workers in Wilkes-Barre. The city partnered with the Luzerne County Community College (LCCC) to offer city employees a 50% discount on tuition.

They signed the partnership on Wednesday at City Hall.

The city will fund 25% of the tuition, while LCCC will fund another 25% and the employee will cover the rest.

The president of the college says it will help with issues they see all over Pennsylvania.

"What we're finding out in Northeastern Pennsylvania, really all across Pennsylvania, local governments, local non-profits are having a real hard time developing a workforce development pipeline to fill the positions that they have open, city government does a lot of good in this community they need skilled workers," President of LCCC John Yudichak told 28/22 News.

City employees can apply for the program through the Office of the Mayor and will be expected to complete their higher education during their off time.
