Girls play off-road to ‘Pack the Park’

TREMONT TOWNSHIP, SCHUYLKILL COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Getting inside her decked-out Jeep, Jaimee Stecker-Betts isn’t going for a drive around the block.

She’s off-roading on dirt, rocks, and hills at Rausch Creek Off-Road Park in Tremont Township.

Her passion is not for the weak, but it was a reawakening for her years ago.

“I started wheeling eight years ago when I got sober, I found myself in my jeep and in the woods and connected, and it’s been my happy place.”

Now she’s sharing it with other women through the organization ‘Girls Play Off-Road.’

“It’s been to empower people. To show them that they’re not alone, that there’s not an obstacle that they can’t overcome.”

Marg Strickler joined the group a year ago, making the move to off-roading after her sister passed away.

"I decided I’m going to be turning 60, I’m getting a Jeep, and I added butterflies to the inside of my Jeep that represent my sister going with me.”

Girls Play Off-Road is hosting a 'Pack the Park' event Saturday, where participants will spend the day meeting new people and getting to learn about off-roading.

All the money raised will benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, something Stecker-Betts says ties in with their mission.

“Our whole motto is do more, do better. There’s a whole lot more than we could all be doing and a whole lot better we could be doing, so we need to kind of give back to everybody.”

Saturday’s girl play off road ‘pack the park’ event begins at 8 a.m. for those registered.
