Bystander injured during shooting between two men

W. HAZLETON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A bystander was injured after a fight between two men turned into a shooting, ending with one arrest and one wanted.

On Wednesday, August 13, West Hazleton Police were called to the area of Warren Street for a person with a gunshot wound.

Once on the scene, officers said they learned two men were involved in a fight, and gunfire was exchanged. Police stated that while the men were shooting at each other, a projectile from the gunfire hit a bystander.

The bystander was not part of the fight and was sitting on their front porch when the shooting broke out, officers noted. The victim was sent to the hospital; their current condition is unknown.

After an investigation, detectives said 21-year-old Guillermo Ventura fired the shot that struck the victim. Other shots Ventura fired crossed roadways and hit occupied buildings.

Ventura was arrested and has been charged with the following:

Aggravated assault

Discharge of a firearm into an occupied structure

Recklessly endangering another person

Propulsion of missiles onto roadways

West Hazleton Police are looking to identify the second man involved in the shooting, along with the identities of multiple men who were involved in the incident.
