Roof collapses while firefighters battle convenience store blaze

OLD FORGE, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Firefighters were battling a heavy smoke fire at a convenience store in Old Forge when the roof collapsed into the store.

Firefighters were on the scene of a convenience store fire in the 900 block of Moosic Road in Old Forge around 6:30 a.m. Friday.

PSP Fire Marshal Unit stated a patron in the food mart notified an employee that smoke was coming from the roof of the food mart.

The roof then collapsed into the food mart while firefighters were fighting the fire, state police reported.

The cause of the fire is believed to have been from an electrical malfunction in the attic space above the floor mart.

The Convenient Food Mart Plaza contained four businesses; a beer store next to the food mart had fire damage, and a partial roof collapse. While an audiology center and laundromat had smoke and water damage.
