Bresnahan, wife announce charitable fund

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A local congressman and his wife have begun what they call a long-term investment in northeastern Pennsylvania.

Representative Rob Bresnahan and his wife, Chelsea Strub, announced today what's called The Greenlight Project.

Funds from the project will be distributed through the philanthropic organization The Luzerne Foundation.

Different themes will be determined each year to help guide funding priorities. The first theme is "Bridging the Gap."

$2,000 to $8,000 grants will be up for grabs for non-profits that demonstrate how they are bridging a gap in northeastern Pennsylvania.

"Whether that's through welfare, community, healthcare, anything going on in the community, if you are a problem-solver, and you found a problem, and you are rolling up your sleeves to solve that problem without somebody asking you to do it, we want to help in that effort," Strub said.

"This is an opportunity for us to give back and to truly make a difference. Chelsea and I, like she had mentioned, care about northeastern Pennsylvania; that's openly why I decided to get into public service, to make a difference for my country, for northeastern Pennsylvania, and this is just something we can do above and beyond to make a difference for our home," Bresnahan stated.

Non-profits can apply for the 2025-2026 grant season for funding from The Greenlight Project.
