KINGSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — People are celebrating the Susquehanna River this weekend with an event that has its origins in ancient China. A crowd gathered at Nesbitt Park on Sunday for the annual dragon boat races.
Nine teams armed with paddles made their way along the water in canoe-like vessels decorated like dragons.
Besides the fun on the river, plenty of activities were held on land. The riverfront parks committee hosts the event.

A King's College faculty and staff team captured a first-place award in the adrenaline-pumping competition.
"Dragon boating is all about unity, and we found as we worked together as a team that's when we excelled at our finest," King's College Faculty and Staff Team Boater Brother Jimmy Henke CSC said.
"Rowing the boats, like, it's all about teamwork and keeping in rhythm. It's not about just the strongest person, so that's one of the main things to learn," Wilkes Soccer Team Boater Luke Ferrarese told 28/22 News.
"Everyone here had a good time. They were all excited. There was a lot of energy here today," Riverfront Parks Committee Executive Director John Maday explained.
Funds raised at Sunday's event benefit a project sponsored by the Riverfront Parks Committee in Wilkes-Barre.
