NEWPORT TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A search effort involving a Pennsylvania State Police helicopter and multiple local police and fire departments was successful on Saturday.
According to authorities, a 79-year-old man went missing in Newport Township on Saturday after he went for a walk in the woods by himself. He called family about three hours later saying he was lost.

According to the Newport Township Fire Chief, The Newport Township Fire Department was dispatched to Old Newport Street around 4:30 p.m. to conduct the search. A PSP helicopter was also enlisted for the search.

Personnel from Newport Township Police and Nanticoke Fire Department were also on scene for the ground search.
Authorities say the man was found around 6:20 p.m. near the home in a heavily wooded area.
The man was uninjured but was transported to a local hospital by ambulance for evaluation, according to officials.
