SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — In Scranton, a community is turning out to help animal rescues struggling to keep up. Paws in the Park brought animal lovers and their pets to McDade Park.
Dogs enjoyed the park, snacking on some treats and even splashing in a doggie pool to cool off, while people packed the paths, all to support Griffin Pond Animal Shelter.
The shelter hopes to raise $10,000 to finish their new vet clinic as well as to keep helping animals.

"It's so important because we have a lot of medical cases, we're always over capacity, so these events are so important to us, and so important to allow us to be able to continue doing what we do," Griffin Pond Animal Shelter Executive Director Ashley Wolo explained.
"All of the shelters are just slammed with pets that need to be adopted, they could all use funds, and that's why it's important. The more vendors that are here, the more people that will show up," Green Dog Barkery Owner and Vendor Michele Pertl explained.
More than 50 vendors were at the event, as well as raffles, and of course, adoptable pets. This was the 8th annual "Paws in the Parks" event by Griffin Pond Animal Shelter.
