SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Several people are now displaced, and three firefighters are recovering after a fire in Scranton on Sunday night.
There are a few updates to share on Monday on the condition of the firefighters involved in last night's blaze. So far, there is nothing yet on the cause.
"It was just crazy so close to home because I live right here. So, it was right across the street from me," one resident said.
A fire ripped through a few homes and a business on Scranton's south side Sunday night.
The call came in at around 6:00 p.m. for a reported house fire.
The flames, hitting the tops of telephone poles at the intersection of Pittston Avenue and Orchard Street.
"I was just sitting in my house, came out to smoke a cigarette, and the next thing I knew, I just see plumes of smoke, just coming out of the store over here. And I told my mom, I said there's a lot of smoke coming out of the house, and then me and her came out front and we saw people running out. They had their dogs in their arms, running out of the house, and they called the fire trucks," Scranton resident Chris Beattie.
Extended paid parking hours may deter Scranton visitors
Four firefighters were injured in the blaze. Their injuries are non-life-threatening.
Three of them were transported to Geisinger Medical Center.
"Nobody was injured as far as the residents or occupants of the buildings that were involved last night. The occupants that have been displaced have been assisted by Red Cross or family members. There's approximately 20 people that have been displaced. About four different properties that were involved in the fire last night," Fire Chief John Judge told 28/22 News.
20 people are believed to be displaced by the fire. Some of those people, picking up the pieces and packing up.
"Just hope everyone's ok and they figure out everything fast and they get everything taken care of," Beattie added.
Two are now out of the hospital. One is expected to be released soon.
The 300 block of Pittston Avenue is now open to through traffic.
Fire investigators are still investigating the incident and have not yet determined a cause.
