Commissioner pushing for resolution to board vacancy

LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— Lackawanna County Commissioner Chris Chermak is pushing for a quick resolution to the county board vacancy.

He says operating with only two commissioners for nearly six months has slowed down business.

Commissioner Matt McGloin resigned in March.

Chermak wants the State Supreme Court to deny Commissioner Bill Gaughan's petition so the vacancy can be filled under the Home Rule Charter.

"Last week, he appealed it to the Supreme Court, so now that's where I sent my letter to the Supreme Court requesting that it be denied and that the lower courts made the right decision," Commissioner Chermak said.

We reached out to Gaughan for comment, and have not heard back yet.
