Man injured as hitch smashes windshield on I-80

EAST STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A man is in the hospital after he was severely injured while driving on Interstate 80 in Monroe County. The family is now asking anyone with information to contact them.

63-year-old Peter Luck was driving along I-80 eastbound near the East Stroudsburg exit, Friday, when a hitch off of the back of a commercial tractor-trailer flew off.

The hitch flew directly into Luck's windshield.

"He was able to get his hand up to block most of the impact. It shattered his Apple Watch, which caused the life alert to go off to get the medics out to the scene," Peter's Son Alex Luck said.

One of Peter's coworkers was trying to get in touch with him at the time; they were late to a meeting.

"It was a little difficult because the emergency services were alerted from his watch. There wasn't a lot of information at the time. One of our associates with the business was trying to get in contact with my Dad, so as the last known number, he was then contacted, and then was able to get the information to us," Alex continued.

Peter operates the Pocono Historic Trolley Tour, something he is incredibly passionate about.

"He wants to give people a good time. He'll take people from the Poconos, give them a chance to see the city in New York, or he'll take people from the New York City area and give them a chance to see the outdoorsy area, and give them both experiences," Peter's Daughter Morgan Luck told 28/22 News.

The family is trying their hardest to keep the trolley business running.

"So right now, I'm stepping in for my dad. He's a one-man show; he does everything himself, so we're trying to piece together and keep the business running. Rest assured that all the tours will still be going on," Alex stated.

In this stressful time, the family is hoping someone will come forward with information.

"As of right now, we don't have a lead. We're working on getting the camera footage on I-80 east, but if anyone happened to be on the road, knows anyone, dash cam footage--obviously anything helps us at this moment in time," Morgan added.

While Peter is recovering, his family is working hard to get answers.
