SHAVERTOWN, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WaYOU) — One special group of players got a big sendoff to the Little League World Series on Wednesday in Luzerne County. The Shavertown Volunteer Fire Department hosted a Touch a Truck event and ice cream night for the Challenger Baseball Team.
The team is made up of kids with special needs from across the Wyoming Valley.
They'll head to Williamsport this coming weekend to play in the Challenger Game, a showcase for athletes with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Families say the event was the perfect way to come together before the players travel on Thursday.
"Some kids are excited, some are nervous because of the crowds that they're gonna see, but we've been practicing really hard," Wyoming Valley Challenger League Coach Beth Qualters told 28/22 News.
"It's just really nice that everybody is recognizing the challenger organization. It's a great organization and I hope people tune in and watch it on saturday and cheer them on," Parent of a player Lynn-Marie Shedlock said.
The Challenger game is a reminder that baseball is more than just a game; it's about teamwork, joy, and the community coming together to cheer these kids on.
