JERMYN, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— It is something most of us could never imagine, but for a small community in Lackawanna County, that terrifying thought may soon become a reality.
28/22 News Reporter Avery Nape sat down with some people living in that part of Jermyn to find out about how they are dealing with the situation.
"So far we received a letter saying as of April 15 we all have to move, but, for a data center," stated Tina Goble, Jermyn.
The buyer listed on that letter is Archbald Developer II, LLC, a limited liability company registered in dauphin county in may of this year.
Residents hear out developers over proposed data center
No connection could be made between the developer and proposed data centers, but an LLC bearing a similar name, Archbald 25 Developer, LLC has been involved in a data center known as project gravity.
Part of that proposed project is right next to the park.
"There's a lot of people up here that are disabled, have children, and they're just gonna make them homeless," said Goble.
Thirteen families live in the park, including Tina and her children.
Pennsylvania law requires tenants to be notified within 30 days after the agreement of sale was signed, but that letter came nearly two months later and all the tenants were given was an apology for the delay.
"Being displaced, it's unreal. For people that live on fixed incomes, people like myself and my brother George, we're both veterans," voiced Robert Blair, Jermyn.
Robert and his brother George have lived in the park since 1995 and their parents lived there before them.
Robert says, fortunately, he owns his trailer outright and has a bill of sale to prove it.
Others are not as fortunate.
"Hopefully they'll give us, like, compensation. Some people have either a bill of sale or they have a title for their trailers. Some people do, some people don't," explained Blair.
For now, residents of the park are left with little to calm their frustration, and with little to no communication from the park's current owner, they're left with more questions than answers.
"They're all getting money from it, but they don't care where we go. That's all and I mean, as long as they're getting money, they don't care about us little people," expressed Goble.
Attempts to reach both the buyer and the current owner of the trailer park were unsuccessful.
Residents say they've had little to no communication from either party.
