New charges against woman who allegedly acted like cat in deadly attack

PENN FORREST TWP., CARBON COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A woman is now facing homicide charges after police say she acted like a cat in the deadly attack of a man.

32-year-old Ashley Self of Jim Thrope has now been charged with homicide for the death of 79-year-old Kenneth Greenfield.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, troopers were called to a home on Parker Mews in Penn Forest Township on August 10 for a mental health warrant on Self.

While troopers were heading to the scene, a 911 call came in for a man reporting that his father, Greenfield, was being attacked by "Ashley," who was later identified as Self.

Troopers say they found Greenfield on his bed, unresponsive and with a laceration on his left forearm, while the nasal cannula from Greenfield's oxygen tank was not on him, and its tubing was broken. Greenfield was brought to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The victim's son told state police that he picked up Self and took her to his home. When Self woke up, she started acting like a cat, meowing and rubbing up against him, as stated in the affidavit.

Court documents stated the victim's son told Self that she needed to leave, and in response, Self started to strip nude. When the son stepped away from Self for a moment, he heard the victim yelling from his bedroom, state police reported.

The victim's son saw Self trying to push Greenfield down on his bed, when Greenfield fought Self off, she began "clawing at him like a cat," the complaint stated.

Troopers say they found Self around 100 yards from the residence, nude and "barking, meowing, and howling upon her apprehension."

Self remains in the Carbon County prison after bail was denied.
