Three charged with passing counterfeit cash at multiple Sheetz

(WBRE/WYOU) — Three men are facing charges after police say they targeted multiple Sheetz in Luzerne County, attempting to pass hundreds of dollars worth of counterfeit cash.

According to the Wilkes-Barre Police Department, the following three men are charged after an investigation revealed they used five counterfeit $100 bills to add $500 in digital currency to a PayPal or a CashApp account:

Andre Michael Fonseca, 37, of Brooklyn

Ryan Damon McQueen, 38, of Brooklyn

Tyree J. Smith, 38, of New Jersey,

Police say they began to investigate after the three accused went to Sheetz in Wilkes-Barre Township to commit the scheme. It was soon discovered that the three allegedly did a similar scam at Sheetz in Plains Township and Wilkes-Barre.

The men then went to a Sheetz in Larksville to scam the store, but this time the clerk refused, leading to their arrest, police reported.

McQueen, Smith, and Fonseca are charged with forgery, conspiracy to commit forgery, theft, and possession of instruments of crime.

Their bail was set at $200,000 each, and they are being held at the Luzerne County Corrrectional Facility.
