PITTSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Pittston's Tomato Festival is not just about fruit, food, and fun. For some, it is also about keeping children safe.
Volunteers from the non-profit, HKQ Kids, distributed helmets for its Annual Bike Helmet Giveaway on Saturday. The giveaway hopes to raise awareness about helmet safety.
Any child was able to receive a free helmet as long as they were accompanied by an adult. The helmets came in a variety of colors.
"I got red," Bike Helmet Recipient Autumn Walsh said.
"Red? Awesome. And what are you going to use it for?" 28/22 News asked.

"I'm going to use it for my electric scooter," Autumn replied.
"Electric scooter? Anything else?" 28/22 News questioned.
"Uh, probably my bike, too," Autumn added.
"We're trying to make it so that the children in our community stay safe. We've been a part of the community for over 50 years, and we wanted to give back, and we thought that was the best place to start," HKQ Business Manager Sue Greenfield stated.
HKQ Kids had about 1,200 helmets to give away at Saturday's festival in Pittston.
