Governor Shapiro congratulates LLWS champions

SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, LYCOMING COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The eyes of the world were on central Pennsylvania on Sunday. A big crowd is on hand for championship Sunday at the Little League World Series, including Governor Josh Shapiro.

Before the big game between Nevada and Taipei China, Shapiro congratulated the 2025 Little League Softball World Series champions.

The West Suburban Little League from Johnstown defeated a team from Indiana earlier this month to become the first Pennsylvania team to win the title since 1978.

Creating lasting memories on the LLWS diamond

Shapiro pointed out how sports is a big deal in the commonwealth.

"When I think about sports in our commonwealth, though, I don't just think about the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Philadelphia Phillies and the teams from those two cities, I think about Williamsport," Governor Shapiro said.

As for Sunday's championship game, Alaina Losito will bring us up to date a little later in 28/22 Sports.
