Easing first day of school nerves with chalk

DUNMORE, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Children and their families are gearing up for the start of school in a colorful way that helps students shake off first-day jitters.

Kids grabbed chalk provided by the Dunmore PTA and filled the sidewalks with bright colors, friendly messages, and playful drawings.

Parents joined in, helping set the tone for a positive start to the school year.

For many kids, it was a chance to meet friends, show their creativity, and feel more confident walking into class on Wednesday.

"Hopefully it's gonna help take their jitters away having all these fun pictures and great messages, and hopefully they'll just forget it's the first day of school," hoped Victoria Andres, Dunmore PTA.

"I was drawing all of the Toy Story toys from Toy Story because I like Toy Story," said Greysin Vanfleet, Dunmore.

From colorful chalk messages to smiling students, this annual tradition is helping Dunmore students start the school year with excitement and confidence.
