Hitting the green to raise money in Lackawanna County

TAYLOR, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — It was a beautiful day to hit the golf course, and that's exactly what more than 130 golfers and non-golfers alike did for the Fourth Annual Bogeys for Burkey at the Pine Hills Country Club in Taylor.

The sold-out charity tournament raised money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation and students at the South Scranton Intermediate School.

The event is held in memory of Frank Burke, a devoted member of the Saint Patrick's Parade Association of Lackawanna County and employee of the Scranton School District.

"Beautiful day to raise money for kids. Everything was about the kiddos with Frankie. This is why we refer to him as Uncle Frankie. They came first, no matter what, and we just want to keep raising money for them," family friend Joe Barrett told 28/22 News.

Since 2022, a memorial fund set up in Frank's honor has awarded more than $135,000 to various charitable causes that were close to his heart.

Frank was 37 years old when he passed away nearly four years ago.
