JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Two people are in custody after a gun fight Sunday night on Cortez Road in Jefferson Township, Lackawanna County.
Police say they have a middle-aged husband and wife in custody after they confirmed a fire fight happened between the two suspects on Sunday night.
"There was also the worry of the male being barricaded in the house, and he had a history of being suicidal, even going as far as saying he wished to get into a fire fight with the Jefferson Twp. Police and win," said Jefferson Township Police Chief Richard Bacon.
According to Chief Bacon, the wife waved down one of the Jefferson Township patrol officers, saying they needed help around 9:45 p.m. Sunday night.

Chief Bacon says they responded with SWAT personnel and a SERT team and later confirmed the gun fight happened after shell casings and bullet holes from both an AR-15 and a pistol were found in the house, along with an empty pistol magazine found in the nearby woods after the wife had fled.
Police set a perimeter and command post around the house at 10:20 p.m., but Chief Bacon says they found the husband had fled in a pickup truck before the perimeter was set up.
Chief Bacon said the man also had ex-police background dogs trained to attack, and cameras surrounding the property, which made them cautiously approach the situation.
The woman was taken into custody between 12:30 a.m. and 2:00 a.m. Monday morning. The man was taken into custody on Monday afternoon when he returned to the house.
Police have yet to identify either suspect, and the charges are still unknown.
