Car catches fire after crashing into utility pole

PITTSTON TWP., LUXERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Firefighters put out a vehicle fire on Wednesday afternoon after the driver crashed into a utility pole.

Crews were called to the area by The Knights Inn off Route 315 around 12:15 p.m.

Assistant Chief Tony Angelella of the Pittston Township Fire Department stated that a car crashed into a utility pole for an unknown reason, splitting the pole in half.

Power lines and a transformer fell onto the vehicle after the impact of the crash, and the transformer then exploded, Assistant Chief Angelella explained.

The driver was the only person in the car and survived.

A parked car next to the fire area suffered damage and melted from the heat.
