Closed school reopens with rejuvenated mission

STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A former elementary school in Monroe County now serves a new purpose. The Ramsey School in Stroudsburg now houses pre-k, Head Start classes, and college and career readiness programs for students ages zero to 24.

Their first day of operation was Wednesday.

The school closed back in 2014 and was updated thanks to the Pocono Services Families and Children's Re-Imagine Ramsey Project.

The expansion will also allow them to serve more than 500 low-income families.

"You can drop off your kid and know they're safe for the day. We're able to support them when they have anything arise in their personal lives, when they have struggles at work with the time frames. We're able to accommodate their needs. When they bring us something new, we look at how can we make something new happen to serve you," Drisana Soto, education coordinator at the Ramsey School, said.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held for the upgrades on Tuesday.
