WILKES-BARRE TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Dozens of families headed to the mall for school supplies earlier on Saturday, and you might be surprised to know their bill was free.
The Wyoming Valley Mall in Wilkes-Barre Township hosted a Customer Appreciation and Back-To-School event, featuring about 30 vendors.
About 200 backpacks were distributed for kids in kindergarten through 12th grade.
COVID-19 vaccinations now available at GIANT
The bags were packed with free supplies, including crayons, markers, notebooks, and pencils.
While most students have already gone back to school, organizers say it's never too late to stock up on supplies to last the whole year.
I think it's just important to give back to those who support us. We want to see people come in the doors. We want them here, and we want them to have a good time," Wyoming Valley Mall Assistant General Manager Breanna Yashkus said.
As part of Saturday's event, customers could receive a $20 mall gift card with proof of a $20 purchase from any store.
