Firefighters battle Butler Township blaze

BUTLER TOWNSHIP, SCHUYLKILL COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Firefighters were out early Saturday morning and overcame several obstacles in battling a difficult Butler Township fire.

In a Facebook post, Lavelle Volunteer Fire Company says they, along with additional crews from the surrounding area, were called to a house fire on Reichwen Road in Butler Township early Saturday morning, just before 12:10 a.m.

When crews arrived, authorities say they were initially unable to find the fire, but after investigation, crews found the flames above the treeline from a remote, wooded area.

Officials explained that it took more time to find the very narrow, unmarked dirt driveway for access.

After crews found the fire, authorities say two firetrucks went in and laid out about 800 feet of supply hose, while all other authorities would need to walk in carrying their equipment.

Officials explained that arriving firefighters were able to help the resident and their pets out of the home.

It's unknown at this time if there were any injuries, what caused the blaze, or if the Red Cross was called to the scene.
