Making memories at 63rd Luzerne County Fair

LEHMAN TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Saturday's weather couldn't stop another fun day at the fair. People from near and far travelled to the 63rd Annual Luzerne County Fair for food, rides, and games.

The weather held up for day four of the fair, marking another successful day.

Carnival rides, a tribute band, and a magician: The Luzerne County Fair has something for everyone to enjoy.

Established in 1962, the fair works to bring the community together to build a better future.

"Oh, it's great, it's great to get people out. There's no fighting, no carrying on, no shootings, nothing. And, it's good to have them, like, the Bloomsburg fair is coming up," Wilkes-Barre resident Nancy Kempa told 28/22 News.

The fairgrounds were filled with families stopping by to make lasting memories.

It's a toss-up on what really attracts them, though.

"Me, personally, I'd be here for the food," Luzerne County Fair Volunteer Jabriel McGowens said.

"I'd say a lot of things, it's horse shows, food, it's tables and stuff, all kinds of things, rides, so many things to do," Luzerne County Fair Volunteer Diaz Tabron added.

Celebrating Italian food, fun in Luzerne County

"We go on a lot of rides, get a lot of food, and look at the petting zoo and stuff," Emma Shyner from Swoyersville said.

The fun at the fair isn't just for the kids. Lots of adults are joining in on the fun of the rides and games, too. Many are simply happy to have the time with their families.

One woman is actually celebrating the arrival of another family member: her great-grandchild.

"My other kids are supposed to come. I'm a great grandma today! This morning, my grandson's wife had a baby boy. So, everybody's supposed to come today, so we're waiting. Right now, I've been here since almost 10:00," Kempa explained.

Visitors and volunteers alike are grateful for the positive atmosphere this fair gives them and their neighbors.

"Yeah, it's a lot of good energy going around, you know," Tabron stated.

"It's really nice to bring the community together," Shyner added.

Day four is wrapping up with a fireworks show, and the fair will open on Sunday, starting at 11:00 a.m. with more fun for everyone.
