NEPA DAs discuss Charlie Kirk murder case investigation

(WBRE/WYOU) — The investigation into the murder of political activist Charlie Kirk continues to move forward with the arrest of 22-year-old Tyler Robinson of Utah.

As federal and state investigators build their case, we speak with three District Attorneys from NEPA about the case: Luzerne County D.A. Sam Sanguedolce and Lackawanna County D.A. Brian Gallagher and Wyoming County D.A. Joe Peters.

They give us their perspectives on the investigation. The I-Team's Andy Mehalshick reports live on 28-22 News.

The Charlie Kirk investigation is being closely watched by people from around the nation. Area prosecutors say they are closely monitoring how the case is being handled.

I spoke with three district attorneys from northeastern Pennsylvania.

They say they can learn lessons from every investigation.

"The first thing I think about is how we maintain and find items of evidentiary value," said Brian Gallagher, Lackawanna County District Attorney.

The murder of political influencer Charlie Kirk in broad daylight and in full view of the world on Wednesday is being watched by prosecutors from all over the nation, including her, Wyoming County D.A. Joe Peters, and Luzerne County District Attorney Sam Sanguedolce.

I interviewed them for my Mehalshick Files podcast on the 28/22 Now app.

"You want to be able to locate where the shot was fired from, especially when the mass panic ensued. You kind of want to make sure that none of the people, to the extent you can, destroy or change any of that. That has evidentiary value," voiced Gallagher.

Sanguedolce says video evidence is crucial.

"So you want to amass all those videos and probably attempt something called a geo-fence, and basically try to get all cell phones that were in that immediate area to link them to the case," stated Sanguedolce.

Wyoming County District Attorney Joe Peters says while a suspect has been arrested, there is much more work to be done.

"Who do we need as witnesses? What additional work has been done? Social media still offers so much in terms of motivation. All those things are rattling around candidly," added Peters.

Sanguedolce, Peters, and Gallagher will be on my Mehalshick Files podcast on Friday at 9:00 p.m. on the 28/22 Now App.
