SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— A new state-of-the-art facility is being built entirely to help fight food insecurity.
Meals on Wheels of NEPA officially broke ground Friday morning on its new home in Scranton.
The long-awaited relocation to Cherry Street will feature a high-efficiency commercial kitchen designed to double the organization`s current meal production of more than 1,500 meals daily.
Their executive director says this will empower them to dream bigger, do more, and ultimately serve more people than ever before.

"It's really incredible. What it ultimately means is that more older adults and neighbors are going to be nourished. Not only to have a meal, but have that friendly visit from one of our volunteers and wellness checks so they know we know we are there, and we are there to support them," voiced Lindsey Skripka, executive director, Meals on Wheels of NEPA.
The state-of-the-art facility is slated to open six months from now in March.
