SCOTT TOWNSHIP, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— Two state troopers who were recently injured in the line of duty were honored at a ceremony ahead of Lakeland's football game against Wyoming Area this evening.
Troopers Joseph Perechinsky and William Jenkins were both shot twice during an ambush while on the job in Thompson Township last month.
Friday's ceremony honored the pair for their courage and sacrifice to the community, as well as a number of veterans and fallen state trooper Bryon Dickson, who was killed in the line of duty in 2014.
Both Perechinsky and Jenkins are graduates of Lakeland High School.
Staff and students there say they are proud to call them Lakeland alumni.
"We are just so privileged to have the honor of recognizing them for their heroism and their courage, and we're just so unbelievably proud to call them Lakeland graduates," expressed Marc Wyandt, superintendent, Lakeland School District.
"They serve our nation, state, you know, even our local area, and honestly, to see them out here after everything they've gone through, what they've done for us, I mean, it's just gonna be nice to give back to them," added Chase Rosenkrans, Junior, Lakeland High School.
Both men are still recovering from their injuries.
