One man dead after Shickshinny fire

SHICKSHINNY, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — One man was left dead after a fire in Shickshinny on Saturday morning.

70-year-old Kenneth Ritchotte lost his life in a fire at 80 South Main Street on Saturday, according to Luzerne County Coroner, Dion Fernandes.

Crews were dispatched to the scene just before 4 a.m. for reports of a shed fire, according to the Mocanaqua Volunteer Fire Company.

Victims of deadly helicopter crash identified

Officials say that the fire was brought under control after about two hours with help from multiple fire departments.

The coroner says Ritchotte and his wife were inside when the fire started in the rear of the home. Officials say Ritchotte was unable to escape the fire. His wife reportedly made it out of the house alive.

The fire is currently under investigation by Pennsylvania State Police Shickshinny and the Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal, according to the coroner.

The Luzerne County Coroner says an autopsy on the victim will be scheduled for the beginning of the week.
