Local resource center addressing need for diapers

DUNMORE, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A local resource center is addressing a critical yet often overlooked issue: diaper needs.

This is National Diaper Awareness Week.

Many came out to Saint Joseph's Center's Blakely Street campus on Tuesday to drop off donations at the Fill the Van event.

The center is partnering with the national Diaper Bank Network to help struggling families.

Volunteers and organizers hope the new event will have a greater impact on families in need.

"We have people who were dropping off one case, or people who did a collection in their neighborhood or at their workplace. Some are bringing monetary donations, and all of that is helping to restock our supply so that we're able to continue to meet needs that local families have," said Sister Maryalice Jacquinot, president and CEO of St. Joseph's Center.

Saint Joseph's Center accepts donations for its baby and children's pantry from Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The diaper drive continues through Sunday.
