PLAINS TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A secondhand shop is setting up for a limited time, ready to charm bargain hunters and those hoping to save a buck.
It’s game time at the Dome Sportsplex in Plains Township.
But not for players, it’s shoppers warming up for the Just Between Friends kids pop-up consignment event.
“Local families bring their items to sell, and then other local families come in to shop and buy the things that their kids need and want,” explained Heather Orlandini, sales coordinator for Just Between Friends Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
Orlandini has been organizing the four-day sale for the last decade.
Residents living along proposed powerline raise new concerns
She says the popularity has grown throughout the years.
“I feel like every year there’s something that is driving families to need to save money, so this is the perfect place for them to do that,” said Orlandini.
More than 158,000 new and gently used items fill the sportsplex. Anything from clothing, baby gear, to toys, all marked down from 50 to 90 percent off retail price.
“You go to the mall, you go to outlets, and $200 doesn’t get you very far, but here it could get you a whole season of clothing,” said Orlandini.
The sale launches just twice a year, and falls around Halloween. You can join the NASA crew for just five dollars, or you could buy the cutest cow costume for only eight.
Orlandini says it’s challenging to plan each sale, but it’s worth it providing support to others.
“I know our family could use the help, and I know lots of families who could use the help, so I definitely want to be the resource for local families to help them with their budget,” shared Orlandini.
Tickets are required for the Just Between Friends presale event on Wednesday, but the event is open to the public starting Thursday at 9:00 a.m., running through Saturday.
