Celebrating Hispanic Heritage at King's College

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — We are in the midst of Hispanic Heritage Month, a time to celebrate the culture and the people. That's exactly what was happening on the campus of King's College in Wilkes-Barre on Thursday afternoon.

Students and staff, gathering for La Fiesta! The La Raza Student Association and the college's Hispanic and Latino Excellence Center co-hosted the event, which featured traditional food, art, and live music.

"I think when people think about Latin America, they tend to blend all the countries together. Latin America and each country has its own distinct culture, its own distinct food and music, and to celebrate that, you have to know a little bit about other countries and cultures," said Martin Lacayo, M.S., the director of the Hispanic and Latino Excellence Center at King's.

Hispanic Heritage Month runs from September 15 through October 15.
