$25K worth of lottery tickets stolen from machines, dispensers

HONESDALE, WAYNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A man is charged after police say he stole over $25,000 worth of lottery tickets from machines and scratch-off dispensers.

Wayne County District Attorney reported that Jason Conklin, a former employee of Wayne Inn and Java and More, repaid the business after he stole $1,700 from unauthorized play. However, the release states, management later discovered additional missing tickets and vouchers.

Further investigation revealed multiple Keeno ticket sales and vouchers were cashed at different locations, with a total amount stolen $25,324.

Authorities said that witnesses confirmed Conklin had direct access to the lottery machines and scratch-off dispenser, and video footage placed him at the machines during transactions.

Conklin later admitted to "past misconduct, acknowledged owing money, and sent messages indicating he would try to repay losses," police reported.

Conklin faces the charge of theft by unlawful taking from movable property.
