Bagging food to fight hunger in the Poconos

STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A supermarket in the Poconos is getting help from the community to help those fighting hunger. Shoprite of Stroudsburg held its Bag for Hunger Day on Saturday.

The event is part of its month-long Partners in Caring campaign. The hunger-fighting initiative supports more than 2,000 charities.

Celebrity baggers included state representative Tarah Probst and 28/22's Sydney Kostus.

Customers can pay five dollars to buy groceries for local pantries in Monroe County, or buy select items donated directly to East Stroudsburg United Methodist Church's food pantry.

The store hopes to raise $10,000 by the first week of October.
