SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — An annual footrace traded in its stripes for plenty of purple. Hundreds of runners heard the sound of motors as they took off from Scranton's Nay Aug Park on Sunday.
Runners in the Show Your Stripes Hot Rod 5K and Walk were encouraged to wear stripes for the event that benefits the Ronald McDonald House of Scranton.
This year, organizers incorporated a "Purple" theme as a nod to McDonald's purple official mascot, Grimace.

"I work in social work, so anything that gives back to the community, helps out any non-profit organizations, like any organizations that help people, it means a lot to me," Hazle Township 5k Runner Chris Lacey told 28/22 News.
"We couldn't do it without our community. We raise all of our funds. We don't charge families anything. It is free of charge. All of our mission is free to anyone who needs it," Show Your Stripes 5K Race Committee member Richard Bradshaw said.
Sunday's run adds onto the tens of thousands of dollars raised from the event for the Ronald McDonald House of Scranton.
