Manhunt ends for man wanted on various sex crimes

LAKE TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— A manhunt that began late last week is over in Luzerne County. While the suspect is in custody, there are still plenty of unanswered questions.

28/22 News Reporter Joe Mason has more on what led up to the manhunt.

40-year-old Ryan McDermott is now in custody. He's now facing several charges in connection with sex crimes.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP), McDermott is now in custody after a four-day manhunt in Luzerne County.

Investigators say several explosive devices were recovered from McDermott's home and that he made numerous threats toward local law enforcement.

This comes after McDermott was charged with felony rape by forcible compulsion, sexual abuse of children, and other related charges.

Police in Illinois contacted PSP after the victim came forward.

The victim told police that McDermott took her to several local motels, gave her excessive amounts of alcohol, and sexually assaulted her when she was unconscious.

Investigators say evidence confirms the encounters did happen.

McDermott was in court this morning. He is being denied bail and is now in the Luzerne County Correctional Facility.
