Elementary staff hold McDonald's fundraiser

EDWARDSVILLE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Teachers from one local elementary school traded in their lesson plans for fast food orders.

State Street Elementary staff members stepped behind the counter at McDonald's in Edwardsville to help raise money for their students. They worked both the drive-through and front counter.

This fundraiser is for student activities, including the school store, rewards, and events throughout the year.

McDonald's agreed to donate twenty percent of all sales during the two-hour event. Teachers say this is also a great way to get them more involved in the community.

"I just like seeing the families together, seeing older siblings that already came through the school, and just reminiscing with some of the families," State Street Elementary School teacher Sara McGrath told 28/22 News.

"With 1,400 kids, we do a lot of positive reinforcement rewards, and we constantly need prizes, and the money will help with activities like that," event organizer Maureen Boich said.

Organizers say events like these also bring teachers, students, and families closer together.
