WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A new voting system is coming to Luzerne County. Leaders say it will save money, reduce errors, and make things easier for voters and poll workers.
Council has approved a new contract with Hart InterCivic. The system will become operational for the next election cycle when the contract begins in the new year.
After months of testing, county officials say the machines are the best fit.
The new system means less equipment, more in-house operations, and fewer chances for human error.

Leaders believe the changes will also help poll workers manage Election Day more smoothly.
"I think we found that it will streamline a lot of our processes. It will help enhance some of what we've already been working towards within the Bureau of Elections, and I think it will be easier for our poll workers as well," Luzerne County Bureau of Elections Director Emily Cook told 28/22 News.
The contract runs for five years, covering equipment, software, and support.
