WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A part of the Diamond City is a lot more colorful on Saturday thanks to an end-of-September tradition. Children showed up at Wilkes-Barre River Common on Saturday to take part in the Annual Chalkfest.
Kids received a free container of chalk and decorated the sidewalks at the Millennium Circle portal.
These budding, young artists were able to take part in other free activities, too, like a family fishing program, environmental exhibits, and face painting.
Some families enjoy coming every year and unleashing their creativity on the huge, outdoor canvas.
"Oh, we love it here. I mean, you can't ask for, you know, it's beautiful, you know, atmosphere. It's beautiful, you know, picture to look at and scenically beautifully, and, you know, it's huge. You don't get sidewalks that are this big at home," Wilkes-Barre resident Christine Rock said.

"Why do we like coming to ChalkFest?" a woman asks.
"Cause we learn how we draw stuff and we get to draw whatever we want," five-year-old Telaney McGlynn told 28/22 News.
"I'm making a Pikachu," seven-year-old Ethan McGlynn said.
"Pikachu? Is that your favorite Pokémon?" 28/22 News asks.
"Yeah, and also Charizard," Ethan added.
