Walking to get kids stronger future in Forty Fort

FORTY FORT, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A local children's organization now has the power to make an even bigger difference thanks to an annual event. The Wyoming Valley Children's Association (WVCA) hosted its 33rd Annual Do It for the Kids Walk-A-Thon on Saturday.

More than 150 people all laced up their walking shoes in Forty Fort to support the early childhood education organization.

Walkers paid a fee to attend with the money supporting the school's programs and therapies that local children rely on.

Organizers say demand for the service keeps growing.

"We see children coming in to our school and for our therapies every day and they don't have the funds that they need to pay for what other services would cost them elsewhere, so although we've been doing it for this long, the need unfortunately in our community continues to rise," President and CEO of Wyoming Valley Children's Association Nina DeiTos Zanon said.

This marks the first Walk-A-Thon event since WVCA completed their centennial fundraising campaign last year, which raised more than $3,000,000.
