SALEM TOWNSHIP, WAYNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Details released for a shooting where police say a man shot at his parents and killed a security officer at a gated community in Wayne County.
26-year-old Lucas Gartrell from Lake Ariel has been charged with homicide after detectives stated he shot and killed a security guard at The Hideout community after he shot at his parents.
At 3:00 p.m. Sunday, troopers were called to a reported shooting at The Hideout community on Oakwood Court and Lakewood Drive.
On the phone with a witness, police said they heard a man say, "It was my son, he was trying to shoot my wife." Troopers stated a second witness called 911, and a woman could be heard saying, "It was my son Lucas, he's bipolar."
The witness on the scene stated they saw Gartrell's father running towards their home, asking to call 911, claiming his son shot him and his wife, as stated in the affidavit. Court documents report that additional gunshots were heard, and the witness saw Gartrell shoot at a Hideout Public Safety officer, who is identified as Jose Duran.

A second witness discovered Gartrell's mother hiding behind a rock on their property, and she was suffering from gunshot wounds to her shoulder and chest, PSP said. Troopers stated the witness encountered Gartrell, who ran towards them with a rifle; however, once the witness announced he was armed, Gartrell fled.
Duran was pronounced dead, while Gartrell's mother was flown to Community Medical Center in Scranton.
A description of Gartrell was given, and state police found him fleeing on a motorized bike. Gartrell eventually crashed on Miller Road, and he was arrested.
