Driver killed in crash after car bursts into flames identified

KIDDER TWP., CARBON COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The Carbon County Coroner's Office has identified the driver who died after he hit a tree, causing his car to burst into flames.

On September 26, the Carbon County Coroner’s Office responded to a crash on Route 940 in Kidder Township.

The coroner stated a vehicle left the roadway, hit a tree, and, on impact, burst into flames. First responders tried to extricate the victim but were unsuccessful.

The Coroner's Office identified the victim as 31-year-old Nick J. Berkheimer from Hazleton City.

The cause of death was thermal burns and blunt force injuries he sustained during the crash.
