YOUNG TWP., JEFFERSON COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — State police were searching for a pilot who took off in his aircraft and has since been found dead.
Troopers searched for 75-year-old David Edward Wittmer, who took off in his ultralight aircraft Wednesday evening in Indiana County.
Multiple jewelry thefts against students walking home
PSP reported around 10:30 a.m. Thursday, during the search efforts, authorities found Wittmer’s ultralight aircraft, which was found crashed in a corn field along Coal Run Road in Young Township, less than one mile from where it had taken off on October 1.
Wittmer, of Altoona, was flying the ultralight aircraft and practicing touch-and-go landings in a field near Church Street in Young Township.
First responders were called to the crash site, and Wittmer was pronounced dead on the scene.
Wittmer’s next of kin has since been notified, and no foul play is suspected.
