HAZLETON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police are investigating and warning parents of incidents where jewelry is being stolen from students walking home in Hazleton.
The Hazleton Police Department reports that they are investigating several incidents in which individuals have stolen jewelry from students walking home from school.
Officials warn of dangers in pranking 911 centers
Police stated the theft involved children being asked to give up gold chains before the suspects fled the area.
Officers want to remind families of the following safety steps that can help keep children safe:
Encourage your child to walk with friends whenever possible
Stick to main roads and well-travelled areas
Please remind your child not to engage with people they don’t know
If something doesn’t feel right, they should get to a safe place and call 911 as soon as possible
Parents are encouraged to contact the police immediately if their child reports anything suspicious or concerning.
