WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— Raising awareness and putting an end to a sad statistic.
The domestic violence service center hosted its annual Empty Place at the Table vigil inside the Luzerne County Courthouse.
The purpose of the vigil is to remember and honor those who have lost their lives to domestic violence in Luzerne and Carbon counties.

According to officials, one woman or girl is killed every 10 minutes by their intimate partner or family member.
"It's an emotional day. October is emotional violence awareness month. We do a lot during the month to really help as many survivors and victims as we can and to bring as much awareness as we can," voiced Bella Ceccoli, fundraiser and development coordinator, Domestic Violence Service Center.
