Showing off Scranton's new and improved City Hall

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— A historic building in Lackawanna County is getting new life.

City Hall in Scranton underwent significant upgrades.

The stained glass windows have been replaced throughout the building, along with roof tiles and repairs to mortar joints.

It was a 14-month process that cost $4.8 million, with $1.5 million coming from Pennsylvania's Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program and a portion of Scranton's American Rescue Plan Act funds.

"City Hall is an extraordinarily visible symbol of the city of Scranton. Most people who live here or come here for any reason can see visually that something has changed for the better. We see that as a result of everything that we have been doing here in Scranton," expressed Mayor Paige Cognetti (D).

City Hall was constructed in 1888, and the last major renovation of the building was in 1980. It was put on the National Register of Historic Places in 1981.
