Nay Aug Park becomes all the 'buzz' to celebrate honeybees

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Honeybee appreciation is growing in Lackawanna County thanks to an annual event on Sunday. A buzz-worthy crowd filled Nay Aug Park in Scranton Sunday afternoon for the Fifth Annual Honeybee and Harvest Day.

Visitors browsed local goods, learned about pollinators, and many even brought their own unbelievable costumes.

The event was hosted by the Greenhouse Project and celebrated the creature that is small in size, but big in importance.

"We're all interconnected, and so without the bees, we may not be eating fresh foods, so it's really full circle, humans' relationship with bees is super important," The Greenhouse Project Volunteer Lisa Peifer stated.

"Oh, it was amazing, I love how everyone was dressed like a bee, and next year I'm gonna dress up just like them," Kristina Worobey from Dunmore told 28/22 News.

The Honeybee and Harvest Day event in Scranton has grown from just a dozen vendors in its first year to more than 30.
