Deadly Bradford County shooting under investigation

ATHENS TOWNSHIP, BRADFORD COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — 28/22 News is learning more about a deadly shooting in Bradford County.

Police say 59-year-old John Kraus was found with multiple gunshot wounds on Vista Drive in Athens Township near Sayre, Friday afternoon.

After further investigation, police found that Kraus violently attacked David Hancock, who then shot him in self-defense.

Luzerne County superintendent facing assault charges

Kraus was brought to the hospital, where he died from his injuries, and Hancock was treated for head injuries.

Pa state law says "deadly force is not justifiable unless the person believes it is necessary to protect them self against death."

The coroner says the cause of death was gunshot wounds to the torso, and his death has been ruled a homicide.

The investigation continues.
